Liebster Blog!

Hi everyone!
First of all I have to say a huge thank you to Jenny from Beauty and the Biryani (http://beautyandthebiryani.blogspot.co.uk) who tagged me for the Liebster Blogward. I was so thrilled to be tagged and it really meant a lot so thank you so much Jenny!
So the way it works it that any blogger with less than 200 followers can be tagged which I think is great to encourage people to keep blogging and show that someone out there is enjoying what you are doing. Once you have been tagged the idea is that you answer the eleven questions set by the tagger before going on to nominate eleven of your favourite blogs for the award and setting them eleven questions to answer too.
So here are my answers to the questions set by Jenny:
1)   Sweet or savoury snacker?
Hmm this is a tough one but I think I’m going to have to say I am mostly a sweet snacker. I love chocolate and ice cream so I am always snacking on these even though they are not very healthy at all!
2)   Which track always gets you on the dance floor?
Recently I have been loving Starships by Nicki Minaj and I am up dancing as soon as I hear this song on a night out.
3)   Favourite fashion era?
I love the glamour of the 1950’s so I’d have to say this is my favourite fashion era. I think the makeup from this era is gorgeous too with the bright red lip and winged eyeliner being my favourite aspects of the 50’s style.
4)   Morning or evening person?
I am definitely an evening person as I am so grumpy first thing in the morning! I think it’s great if you can get up early as it’s such a peaceful time of day but it takes me so long to wake up and I just find I can get more done in the evening.
5)   Favourite film?
This is another tough question for me as I have so many films that I love. A few faves are Confessions of a Shopaholic, Legally Blonde, Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman – typical girly girl!
6)   Country or City?
City every time - more shops! :)
7)   If you could play any musical instrument what would it be?
I’d love to be able to play the piano. I started learning a while ago but gave it up when I went to uni and it’s something I’ve always wanted to start up again.
8)   What’s your dream holiday destination?
I’d really like to go somewhere like Bora Bora or the Maldives and just have a really relaxing holiday.
9)   What’s your favourite season and why?
I think I’d have to say winter for this one as I love getting all wrapped up and feeling all cosy when it’s rainy and cold outside and Christmas is my favourite time of year.
10)                Any phobias?
I have a phobia of spiders and can’t stand being anywhere near them. My dad actually looked at getting me hypnotherapy for my fear of spiders as I drive him mad asking him to get rid of them for me.
11)                Who’s gig/concert would you most like to attend?
I had a list of about ten people I wanted to see in concert and the only one left is Robbie Williams. I am hoping he is going to do a solo tour again soon so I can finally cross that last concert off!

So here are my eleven questions for the bloggers I have tagged :)
1)    What is your favourite type of blog post to read?
2)    What is your favourite book?
3)    Dramatic eyes or bright lips?
4)    Where is your favourite place to shop?
5)    Shoes or handbags?
6)    Which perfume are you always reaching for?
7)    What would be your dream career?
8)    How would you describe your sense of style?
9)    Which two beauty products would you recommend everyone should try?
10) What’s the best present you have ever been given?
11) What’s your favourite nail varnish?

And the eleven fab blogs which I tag for the Liebster Blog Award are:
1)    The Nail Tart
2)    Tatty Tulip
4)    Another New Day
8)    Twenty One
9)    Grace Young

So I think I have covered everything there. Hope you guys enjoyed reading and take a look at the blogs I have tagged, they are all fab!

1960's Mod Makeup

Hellloooo,
I haven’t done one of my ‘makeup through the decades’ posts for quite a while so I thought I’d continue with the mod look from the 1960’s. The 60’s brought a change from the previous decade where bright, bold lips and more neutral eyes were most popular and instead lips were kept pale and neutral while the eyes were made more of a focal point. This look is really easy to achieve and the dramatic eye makes it great for a night out with friends.
                                               Face
In the 1960’s foundation was usually kept fairly pale and concealer was used to cover up any blemishes and create a flawless base. Sometimes the foundation was also used over the lips to help blend them in and ensure that they do not distract from the eyes in any way. I’ve found that DermaBlend concealer is amazing for covering up any dark circles or imperfections and is great to help create the flawless base needed for this look.

Blusher
Blusher is not essential for this look as the aim is to keep the face simple and allow full attention to be given to the eyes. However, if like me you would prefer to stick with the blusher then pale peach colours and soft pinks are the way to go to ensure a subtle natural blush. Benefit’s Thrrrob blusher and Pink Cloud by Natural Collection are great for providing a delicate hint of rosy pink to the cheeks.
                                   Eyes
The most recognisable aspect of makeup from the 1960’s was undoubtedly the eyes. Full doll like lashes and heaps of eye shadow were used to create the look which is great if you fancy switching things up a bit for a night out. To create the dark smoky eyes of the 60’s I use a paler eye shadow all over the lid and only apply the darker shadow to the crease as seen in the image to the right. This helps the eye to look more rounded and doll like which is key to accomplishing this style. Then add lashings of mascara to finish. A great product for this is Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara which gives great length and makes eyes look wide and full. Alternatively you could add a pair of false lashes to give even more volume and length for the ultimate dramatic eye.
                                                                                              Lips
In contrast to the bold and bright lips from the 1950’s, the 60’s was all about keeping lips neutral and de-emphasising them. As I mentioned above, concealer or foundation was used to cover the lips and pale pink and peach lipsticks were the most popular colours used. Revlon’s Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting gives a subtle pink glow which would be great for achieving the mod look whilst still maintaining a hint of colour.
Makeup in this era was sort of a switch around from the 50’s and instead of focusing on the lips and keeping eyes neutral, lips were de-emphasised and eyes were played up. I really like the mod look, particularly the doll like, wide eyes and long lashes.
Have any of you guys tried to recreate the mod look? Which products did you use to achieve it?

Top Five Lipsticks!

Hellooooo,
I’ve recently become a bit obsessed with lipsticks and have built up quite a collection so I thought I would share a few of my faves with you lovely people out there :) I never used to really wear lipstick and if I did the colours were always fairly neutral, but I have started to experiment a bit more with different shades and brighter colours over the last few months and now I rarely leave the house without a applying a bit of lippy first.

1)   MAC – Angel (£14)
My favourite lipstick at the moment is Angel from MAC. Apparently this is also Kim Kardashian’s favourite as well but I didn’t know that at the time I bought it. Angel is a light-medium rosy pink shade with a frost finish which I love and think really suits my skin tone. The colour seems to last quite well on my lips too and I don’t find that I need to top it up that much throughout the day. I think I reach for this lipstick the most often as it is quite a neutral one and great for an everyday look.
2)   Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick – Nude Pink (around £6.99)
I really like coral coloured lipsticks and this one from Rimmel not only looks pretty but is smells (and tastes!) fab. This is another great ‘day time’ lipstick as it is a pale coral / pink colour and like the MAC lipstick it lasts really well throughout the day. The only downside to this one is that I do find it quite drying and as I have dry lips anyway this only makes them worse.
3)   MAC – Impassioned (£14)
I have only recently started to experiment with brighter lip colours and Impassioned from MAC has quickly become a firm favourite. This is a very bright pink lipstick with an amplified cream finish and is great for a night out. I also often put a layer of Vaseline on before applying this lipstick to tone it down slightly – a great way of getting two looks out of one product.
4)   Topshop – Pillow Talk (£9)
This girly baby pink lipstick from Topshop is so easy to wear and the colour pay off is great. This is the only Topshop lipstick that I have at the moment but after falling in love with this one I’ll definitely be adding some more lipsticks from Topshop to my collection. If you like MAC’s Cream Cup I would recommend giving this one a try.
Boots No.7 – Pink Lemonade (£10)
This lipstick is quite sheer and is a very pale pink / nude colour which is great if you want something more than a lipgloss but also that isn’t too much. It’s a ‘moisture drench’ lipstick so really good for my dry lips but I do find myself having to top it up a bit more throughout the day, more so than the others in my top 5. Having said that it’s really easy to wear and great for throwing on when you are in a rush or out and about.
So there are my top five lipsticks which I’m loving at the moment. There are so many lipsticks on my wish list so no doubt my favourites will change as I try new shades and brands but for now these are the ones that I am always reaching for.
Are there any lipsticks that you guys would recommend? Which lipsticks are you loving at the moment?

She Said Beauty Box - August

Hellllooo,
Just a quick post about this month’s She Said Beauty Box which arrived on my doorstep this morning :) I’ve been getting beauty boxes for quite a while now but the excitement of getting a parcel full of beauty goodies each month still hasn’t worn off. So here’s a look at the products that were in the August box...

White Glo Whitening Toothpaste
I was a bit surprised to see toothpaste in my beauty box but I have wanted to try and whiten my teeth a bit so I am happy to give it a try. I can’t really say too much about it until I have used it a few times but I have my fingers crossed that it will make some sort of difference.
Balance Me Rose Otto Intensive Lip Salve
I was a bit disappointed with this item as I recently got it free with Glamour magazine so now I have two! I’m not crazy about the smell or taste of this lip balm but I do suffer from dry lips so I’ve no doubt it will get used at some point.
Redken Colour Extended Radiant-10
I am always looking for products that will help improve the condition of my coloured hair and this spray promises to provide ten transformative benefits, including nourishing dry ends, improving manageability and reducing frizz, so I am interested to see how well it works.  I gave my hair a quick spritz of this earlier and I liked the smell of it but I’ll have to wait and see if it improves the condition of my hair at all.
Papier Poudre Rachel Powdered Paper

I’ve never used blotting paper before but I do tend to get quite an oily t-zone so this item will be handy to keep in my handbag for touch ups when out and about. I like the fact that it leaves a subtle trace of powder and it’s not a product that I would have picked up myself so it will be nice to try something that’s a bit different for me.
Nails Inc Nail Polish
I really like the colour of this nail varnish but the bottle is so tiny it might take me a while to paint my nails with it! Having said that, I am still happy with the item and prefer it to the nail foils which were also available in some boxes.
Original Eau De Cologne
Unfortunately my little bottle of this was smashed on arrival and all the contents had leaked out so I can’t really comment on it :( I’ve been a bit unlucky with items in the beauty boxes getting broken in the post but I guess it’s just one of those things.
Overall I was quite happy with the August She Said box although it isn’t my favourite one so far. Of all the products I think my favourite is the Redken Colour Extend Spray and my least favourite is the Balance Me lip balm, mainly because I already got it for free with Glamour.
What did you guys think of this month’s She Said box? Are there any other beauty boxes out there that you would recommend trying?
