New Year's Eve Nails

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas! Ours was certainly one to remember as we ended up spending all of Christmas evening and Boxing Day shifting water to prevent our house from flooding! The weather has been so bad here and my thoughts are with anyone who has had problems with the flooding. Although the water didn’t come inside the house, it was very stressful trying to keep it out and I know others have been affected much more than us.

On to today’s post now though and I thought I would share with you an idea for super glittery New Year’s Eve nails. This is such a good time to go all out with makeup, hair and outfits and I love how sparkly these nails are as well as being so easy to achieve.

Firstly, I painted a coat of silver gel polish on my nails to make the glitter stand out more and set it under the lamp. If you don’t have gel polishes, normal nail varnish will work as well. Next I simply used my finger to dab glitter from a pot onto my nails. If you’re using normal polish you will need to wait until it has dried slightly but is still sticky before doing this. Simply keep applying the glitter until you have the coverage that you want and then apply either your gel top coat or polish top coat to finish it off. When using the gel I have found that you will get a smoother finish than with the polish which may leave the glitter feeling a little raised. I don’t think this is much of a problem though and I still love the overall look.

These are some of my favourite nails to create and I think they are perfect for NYE as well as being so easy to do!

Which nail varnish / gel will you be using this New Year’s Eve? Do you like the super glittery look or something more subtle?

Christmas Day Makeup Look

Hi everyone,

For Christmas Day I like to do something a bit extra with my makeup and maybe add a little sparkle here and there. This look is perfect if you’re going to a party or just spending the day with family and it’s quite a quick and easy one as well.

Face

So as usual I start off with the Maxfactor FaceFinity Primer before following with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector which I just blend in with my fingers. For foundation I have been using Nars Sheer Glow a lot recently and the Real Techniques Buffing brush to get a really flawless and even finish. I’m actually liking Sheer Glow more than Double Wear at the moment which is unusual for me. I like that it isn’t as matte but still stays in place all day.

Eyes

Moving on to the eye makeup, I start off with the Urban Decay Naked palette and apply Sin all over the eye lid. To add some definition I then use Toasted and a little bit of Hustle from the same palette in the crease and blend out. Now for the fun part! It’s not Christmas without some glitter and sparkle so I use The Body Shop Rollerball and apply the glitter all over the eye lid for a really festive finish. My favourite liquid eyeliner at the moment is The L’oréal Superliner which I use on my top lash line and then the Bourjois Kohl and Contour on my water line. For mascara, at the moment I am using the Clinique Bottom Lash mascara and Lancôme Hypnôse Drama which is one of my all-time favourites.

Face

After finishing my eye makeup, I go back to the base and use Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer for brightening under the eyes. I then use another firm favourite of mine which is the Estée Lauder Double Wear concealer to hide any redness and blemishes. To set all this in place I apply the Rimmel Stay Matte powder and Benefit’s One Hot Minute bronzer over the top. I really like this bronzer as it gives a lovely subtle glow to my skin but isn’t too over the top. To finish the look I add some Benefit Gimme Brow to give my brows some definition and frame my face more.

Cheeks

Nars Lustre is a recent rediscovery of mine and is a gorgeous golden blush. I add this to the apples of my cheeks before going in with the Topshop highlighter in Sunbeam which compliments the blusher really well. It looks quite scary in the pan but blends beautifully to give a lovely golden shimmer.

Lips

I didn’t put a lip gloss or lipstick on in the photos but I think I would wear something natural with this look, maybe with a slight pink tint to it. As the eyes are a pink / purple shade I think something like red would clash too much but a neutral tone would look lovely.

Which makeup will you be wearing on Christmas Day? Do you like to do something a little different for the festive season?

Christmas trip to Edinburgh!

Hi everyone,

This weekend my boyfriend and I went on a little get away to Edinburgh. It was really nice to spend some time together and look around the city which is just so pretty. It also really got me in the festive spirit as there were some Christmas markets and everywhere was lit up with sparkly lights ready for the big day. Although this is a little different for me, I thought I would share some photos with you from our mini break and some things that we did and saw :)

The Street of Lights

The Street of Lights is set up on the Royal Mile and was created by Virgin Money. It consists of 60,000 lights which all dance in sync to a choir which sings at intervals throughout the evening. I’ve never seen anything like it before, it was so pretty and really put me in the Christmas mood!

Edinburgh Castle

We didn’t actually go round the castle as it was sooo windy and rainy that day but it was still nice to go up and see it briefly. I would like to go back one day and have a good look round, although it is a little pricey as it would have been £33 to get tickets for my boyfriend and me.

Edinburgh Christmas Markets

I love a good Christmas market and the one in Edinburgh certainly didn’t disappoint. The food there was so yummy and there was a big wheel that we went on to get a view over Edinburgh at night. There was also a Christmas tree maze which was probably meant more for the children but that didn’t stop us enjoying it :)

Shopping on Princes Street

You can’t go to Edinburgh without doing a spot on shopping on Princes Street. My favourite was Jenners where they had a humongous Christmas tree and loads of fairy lights making it feel a bit like Santa’s Grotto.

I think we crammed a fair amount into the three days that we were there and I feel like I have never done so much walking! It was a really lovely trip though and I would definitely recommend visiting Edinburgh if you haven’t been before!

Have you ever been to Edinburgh? Is it somewhere you would like to visit?
